SC connector

An SC connector is a push-pull fibre-optic connector with a square-bodied housing, commonly used to join a fibre cable to an adapter or network device.

What an SC connector means

An SC connector is a fibre-optic connector with a push-pull coupling mechanism and a square-bodied housing. It is used to connect a fibre cable to a compatible adapter, patch panel, transceiver, or other fibre interface.

On a CableFit product page, “SC connector” identifies the connector format at the cable end or ends. It describes the physical connection style, not the overall quality or performance of the cable.

Why the connector type matters

The connector must match the corresponding port, adapter, or coupler. An SC connector will not automatically fit equipment designed for an LC connector, ST connector, or another interface. The connector format can therefore be an important part of checking whether a fibre product suits an existing installation.

It can also matter whether the cable has one connector per end or a duplex arrangement. The connector name alone may not describe that layout, so check the product’s full description and images where available.

What the label does not tell you

“SC connector” is a capability or format label, not a quality rating. It does not by itself confirm:

  • Whether the fibre is single-mode or multimode
  • Whether the end face uses UPC or APC polishing
  • The cable’s length, construction, or fibre count
  • Insertion loss, return loss, or other optical performance
  • Whether the connector is suitable for a particular device or adapter

Those details remain unknown unless they are stated separately on the product page. A connector that looks physically similar may still require the correct fibre type, polish, port specification, and connection arrangement.

What to check on a product page

Look for the connector type at each end, along with the fibre mode, cable construction, length, and any stated polish or performance specifications. Also confirm whether the product uses a simplex or duplex arrangement if your installation requires a particular number of fibre paths.
