USB4
What USB4 means
USB4 is a USB connectivity standard for transferring data and, where supported, carrying other functions such as display signals. On CableFit, it appears as a USB version associated with published products rather than as a complete description of everything a cable can do.
The catalog currently includes products labeled USB4 Gen 2x2, USB4 Gen 3x2, and USB4 Gen 4x2. These labels distinguish USB4 generation and lane configurations. In standards terminology, they are associated with nominal signaling classes of 20, 40, and 80 Gb/s respectively, but a label is not a promise of that rate in every use.
Why it matters on CableFit
USB4 can matter when a buyer needs a cable for high-bandwidth data transfers or a connection that may also support display output. The relevant USB4 generation can help narrow products, but the cable, host device, peripheral, and any display or dock must all support the desired function.

What the label does not tell you
“USB4” by itself does not fully specify:
- The exact data rate available in your setup
- Whether the cable supports USB Power Delivery, or which power level it supports
- Whether video output is supported
- The connector arrangement or cable length
- Backward compatibility with the particular USB or Thunderbolt devices you plan to use
- Whether the stated rate is available with all connected devices and operating conditions
The Gen 2x2, Gen 3x2, and Gen 4x2 wording also should not be treated as a standalone performance test. It describes a USB4 classification; it does not establish build quality, durability, signal integrity in a particular installation, or suitability for a specific device combination.
What to check on a product page
When comparing a USB4 product, look beyond the version field and check the page for:
- The complete USB version and generation wording
- Connector types at both ends
- Any stated data-rate or bandwidth information
- Power or USB Power Delivery details
- Display or video support
- Cable length
- Compatibility notes for your computer, phone, dock, monitor, or storage device
If those details are not listed, they remain unknown. Do not infer them solely from the USB4 label.
Nearby terms
USB-C describes a connector format, while USB4 describes a USB standard; they are related but not interchangeable terms. USB Power Delivery concerns power negotiation and charging capabilities. Thunderbolt 4 is a separate connectivity standard with its own requirements, even though some devices and cables may overlap in use.
